Too Busy to Read with Your Kids? Try These 5-Minute Habits

Abesh Chatterjee

We get it. Life is busy. Between work, cooking, school runs, and endless to-do lists—reading with your child may feel like a luxury.

But here’s the truth: you don’t need hours. Just 5 minutes can spark a reading routine.

 1. One Page a Day

Read just a single page together after dinner. One page leads to two… then maybe a whole chapter!

 2. Stories on the Go

Listen to audiobooks in the car or during breakfast. It counts, and it’s fun!

 3. Bedtime Boost

Replace 5 minutes of screen time with a short story before bed. It calms the mind and builds connection.

4. Read, Then Draw

Ask them to draw their favorite part of the story. It makes even 2-minute reads memorable.

5. Book Basket Trick

Keep a mini book basket in every room. Kids are more likely to pick up a book when it’s right there.

Reminder: Reading isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence. A few minutes today can grow into a habit tomorrow.
